We highly recommend doing this modification to any car that sees autocross, driving schools, and race use BEFORE the damage occurs. This can occur with regular road use, and if you drive your BMW E46 hard, then chances are very high that you'll need to repair this area at some point in the future. The rear subframe-to-chassis attachment points on the E46 are all failure prone and can rip away from the unibody after time.
